How to Prepare Artwork for Your 'My Smart Artbook'

A small amount of preparation helps us digitise your child’s artwork clearly and create a high‑quality Artbook or Print.

Choose the pieces you love most

Select the artworks that feel meaningful. Colourful paintings, early scribbles, school projects, doodles, collages, certificates, or even photos of 3D creations.

There is no right or wrong choice. If you’re unsure, you’re welcome to send everything and I’ll help you choose the strongest pieces.

What digitises best?
Most artwork photographs or scans beautifully, especially when it has:

  • Bold colours

  • Solid shapes

  • Confident lines

  • Paint, marker, crayon, or vivid pencil

Fine, very light pencil or faint sketches may appear softer once digitised, and heavily folded or wrinkled pieces may still show some texture after editing. I’ll always do my best to enhance each piece and will let you know if anything isn’t suitable.

Are there any pieces that don’t work well?
Almost everything can be digitised, but a few types may need extra care:

  • Very wrinkled or heavily folded pieces

  • Torn or extremely fragile paper

  • Extremely textured artwork (thick collage, heavy glitter, chunky paint)

These can still be included, just know that some texture may remain visible. If something truly won’t reproduce well, I’ll let you know before designing.

Remove tape and pins
If any pieces have tape, blu tack, pins, or staples, gently remove them. This helps us scan or photograph the artwork cleanly.

Flatten curled or folded edges
Place curled pieces under a heavy book for a day or two. This helps them sit flat and photograph well.

Keep sets or themes together
If your child created a series or a themed project, place those pieces in a small bundle. I’ll keep them together in the layout so the story flows naturally.

If you’d like captions or a specific order
You’re welcome to guide the design as much or as little as you like.

  • Write a small pencil number on the back of each piece

  • If you want captions, write the caption number beside it (e.g., “3 – Rainbow Fish”)

  • If you have a preferred cover artwork, place that piece on top

  • Keep everything in the order you’d like it to appear — I follow your sequence when designing

If you’d rather I choose the order, just send everything as is.

Include any notes you want added
If you’d like dates, captions, or small stories included, add a note with your artwork or include them in your customisation form.

That’s all it takes to get your artwork ready!
